Which should we be doing more in our lives and in our communication to others of the love and faithfulness of God – preaching or singing?
Many have heard that we are to Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit (Eph 5:19), but did you know we are also to Teach and Admonish one another this way? – “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts” (Col. 3;16).
– We are to come into the Lord’s presence with thanksgiving and praise, as God dwells within/inhabits the praises of His people (Psa, 100:4; 22:3). There is no more powerful way to encounter the manifest weight and intimacy of God’s presence than through worshipping Him in song – and there is no greater reason for joy!
– The most triumphant way to battle the lies of the enemy is with songs of God’s Truth: Jesus Himself “went out into the night”, to His trial in Gethsemane, singing (Matt. 26:30). Meditate on 2 Chron 20: When King Jehoshaphat went into battle, the Lord set ambushes against his enemies when he began to sing and praise the Lord Almighty!
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance (Psa. 32:7) To me, the greatest songs of all are the ones He sings to me – Zeph. 3:17! (See Aug. 18 Blog: The Greatest “New Song” of All!
